Truth at First Light:
The Words of Jesus Christ

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. --Matthew 18:19
Two Are Better Than One

Sometimes life deals us a hand where we think we've been stranded alone on a deserted island. As Christians, we are not immune from problems, circumstances, and perilous storms, but in Christ we have become overcomers because He overcame the world. During these times of struggle, we often find it difficult to feel the Lord's presence, but His word and Spirit are always there to comfort us. Additionally, we have other Christians on whom we can lean to encourage and strengthen our resolve to be victorious. This is why it is so important to have a like-minded person upon whom you can trust to help bear your burdens. The Bible teaches us: Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. [Galatians 6:5]

Anyone who has ever been through a storm and was encouraged by another knows the power in a group--even if it is a group of two or three. Unity and agreement are the underlying forces that set the power of God (through faith) in motion. This is greatly illustrated in Acts 2:1 when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place. The Lord prayed to the Father in John 17:22 that they may be one, even as we are one. Even God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit operate in harmony and agreement (1 John 5:8). It makes perfect sense for children of God to operate in the same agreement.

The Bible says: Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him that is alone when he falls; for he has not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat. But how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. [Ecclesiastes 4:9-12]

God said in Genesis 2:18, It is not good that the man should be alone. We are not alone in this world. In addition to His Spirit, God has given us each other to help shoulder the weight of the cross. Even Jesus needed help carrying the cross and God supplied Simon the Cyrenian to help Him. Reach out to someone to pray with you; someone you trust to agree in faith with you; someone to lend a hand when the storm hits, and provide words of comfort in time of need and you can do the same for them. If one can chase 1,000, then two can chase 10,000 (Deuteronomy 32:30). The Bible teaches that there is power in unity and agreement. Utilize this power to be the conquerors God said we are.

Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven. I thank You that we are not alone in this world. You have given us each other to encourage and comfort one another during times of prosperity and also in times of struggle. I understand the power of agreement and I commit myself to fulfilling the law of Christ by bearing the burdens of others through encouragement, prayer, agreement in faith, and any other means You may have me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
