If God could be confused, I think He would be confused with the brand of Christianity that is being promoted today—especially in the United States. Much of today’s church sees the Christian life as one where God is responding to us—our prayers, our obedience, our worship, even our faith. I heard one Bible teacher proclaim, “God doesn’t respond to your tears, or to your needs. Rather, He responds to your faith!” While this sounds spiritual and true—especially in the charismatic realm where it is commonly taught that we must grab onto God until He blesses us like with Jacob (Genesis 32:24-29)—this is NOT a principle taught in the New Testament.
The Gospel or good news of Jesus teaches us that God has done everything for us and the Christian life, or the life of faith, is our response to God’s grace; and the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to teach us all things and guide us into all truth (John 15:26; 16:13). This is completely opposite of what is being taught in most churches, which is why most churches are not getting the same results the early church did as recorded in the book of Acts.
I believe we truly need an awakening to the truth where the Bible is the source of our theology, and not some worldly philosophy and traditions of man that make the word of God of none effect. This awakening can happen if the true followers of Jesus Christ will get a revelation of what God has done for us through Jesus and the power and authority He has given us on earth to preach His message of reconciliation to the world.
The Bible says, For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared unto all men… [Titus 2:11]
Also, (God) according as his divine power has given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of him who has called us to glory and virtue. [2 Peter 1:3]
And, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. [Ephesians 1:3]
If you’ll read carefully, you’ll notice that the grace of God that brings salvation, all things that pertain to life and godliness, and all spiritual blessings have already (past tense) been given to us through Jesus!
I conducted a demonstration at a church recently where I asked a young man named David to give me his Bible. After receiving his Bible, I began begging and pleading for him to give me his Bible. Dismayed, his response was, “I already gave it to you.”
I then told others in the church to begin begging David to give me his Bible. Then I got on my knees and promised to “do everything right” and even said I would stop eating until he gave me his Bible. Needless to say, David and everyone in the auditorium were completely confused. To be honest, I must have appeared to be absolutely foolish, and rightly so.
But sad to say, this is what we are doing in our relationship with God. We have so many churches in intercession and prayer, crying out to God to send revival to the earth. They cry, “Touch us, Lord! Move in this place, Lord! Pour out your Spirit on us, Lord! Give us a fresh anointing, Lord! Heal us, Lord! Save my ungodly husband, Lord!” not knowing that God has already done these things through Jesus and is clearly revealed in His word.
Here’s a newsflash! God is NOT stuck—He’s already moved through Jesus; and now it is up to us as His ambassadors, to reveal Jesus to the world.
As I said, this awakening can happen if we will get a revelation of the gospel of who we are in Christ, and the power and authority we have in Christ. We have a great illustration of this in the Old Testament where Moses was leading the children of Israel out of Egypt… [Exodus 14:8-16]
And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel; and the children of Israel went out with a high hand. But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal-zephon. And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid.
And the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD, and they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? Is not this the word that we did tell you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will show to you today. For the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them no more forever. The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Why do you cry out to me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. But you lift up your rod, and stretch forth your hand over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
Brothers and sisters, God is saying the same thing, “Why are you crying for Me to do something when I’ve already sent My Son, and through Him, you have all you will ever need?” As with Moses, the Lord is telling us to take the “rod” of the name of Jesus and receive the abundant life Jesus died to give us.
I recently taught these truths at a church here in Greensboro and the Lord was faithful to confirm His word with signs and wonders following (Mark 16:20) as we saw one person born again, ten people filled with the Holy Spirit, and a number of people healed, and one woman delivered from oppression. Through the gifts of the Spirit, the Lord had me reveal several sicknesses and problems in people’s bodies and we saw instant manifestations with a woman being healed of lower back pain (she was completely pain free and able to bend over at the waist without pain), and another woman who had a growth on her neck, which instantly disappeared after we commanded it to do so.
