Don't Look Back

You are not your experience. Whatever happened yesterday was yesterday. To quote Fleetwood Mac, "Yesterday's Gone." The Lord Jesus made this statement to someone who promised to follow Him as long as he was allowed to return home to bid his family good-bye. When we surrender to the call of following the Lord Jesus, we must not look back at what happened yesterday, a week ago, a month ago, even years ago. Instead we set our eyes upon Jesus and allow Him to direct our paths.

Some of you are still dealing with things that occurred in your past and it has hindered your walk in Christ. We cannot allow circumstances, mistakes, or anything else that happened yesterday to prevent you from arriving at tomorrow. Lot's wife learned the cost of looking back--to her peril (Genesis 19:26) and we need to adhere to this principle. All our past will do is either trouble or condemn us. Our life in Christ is a walk of faith, and if you turn around and look behind, you run the risk of swaying off the path. Keep looking ahead and above where the Lord is waiting. Your past is past. I think the apostle Paul said it best: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended. But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [Philippians 3:13-14]
